The illusion of light and shadow is the basic subject matter for artists Chang Young Kim, Mee Sook Lee and Soo Whan Choi. Under the influence of the same subject, each artist displays their own distinct visual impressions.

Simple ideas have a way of turning around. The nine artists Mee Sook Lee, Seong Eun Hong, Jung Eun Park, Chang Young Kim, Hokuto Ichikawa, Su Yeon Na, Jee H Hwang, Hyun Suk Ryu and Ki Saeok Kim show hope in their artworks.

A DREAM PLAY

A very entity of human being begins, even before their longed-for birth into the secular world, at a sanctuary called wombs. By the same token, a creature has innate desire to secure as well as to comfort oneself by means of having its own space.
 
In light of my experience from toddlerhood, I have expanded the concept of "space." By shedding lights through a small space, I managed to have a colossal room where I could cast metamorphous shadow with my tiny hands. In the expanded space, I could even meet a shadow man who was as tall and as big as I was. At the very moment, the shadow man who coexists in the space starts a performance with me in a mutually shared space.
 An audience is not a mere third person. He/she is a proactive subject who appreciates arts, and who enters into the very space of them. Subsequently, the one presents a play at the space, i.e., arts.

It is my hope to unravel the ambiguous boundaries of arts. In so doing, I can transcend the borders between visual, theatrical, and acoustic arts, whereby I can deliver "immediate arts." These arts would individually help curtail multiple steps by means of one's own firsthand experience. We are unwittingly facing a reality. Unlike the world of innocence of child, we are intoxicated by various reasons exuding from the reality. The life is hectic.

I am making efforts to create shelters for the contemporaries. Energy is created. Not by a reality directed towards future but by discovering a truth from an ideal. This energy lays the foundation for one's movement, whether it be mental or physical, for the Individuals including myself.

몽환극 (A DREAM PLAY)

인간은 태어나기 전 부터자궁이라는 집으로 부터 존재가 시작된다.
그리하여 인간을 비롯하여 지구에 생명체들은 집이란 공간을 만들어 스스로를 보호하고 안식을 취한다.

어릴 적 경험을 비추어 공간이란 개념을 확장시키었다.
작은 공간을 만들어서 후레쉬를 비추고 손으로 그림자 놀이를 하거나, 종이를 오려 그림자를 확장 시킨 다음 나와 동등한 크기의 또 다른 인물을 만들어 만나곤 하였다. 그 순간만큼은 어둠 속에 나타난 그 빛 속의 그림자가 실제 나와 함께 공존하여 공간속에서 함께 연극을 하게 된다.

단순히 제3자가 되어 작품을 감상하는 것에서 끝나는 것이 아니라 관람자도 작품에 도취되어 작품의 일부가 되거나 각본 없는 배우가 되어 함께 연극을 하게 된다. 모호한 예술의 경계를 풀어서 시각 예술과 무대와 배우 그리고 청각 예술을 경계의 형식을 벗어나, 실제 인간을 위한 예술이기에 보다 직접적인 체험으로써 여러 단계의 과정을 단축시키는 직접예술을 느끼게 하고자 하는 바램이다.

어느 덧 우리도 동심을 벗어나 현실을 만나고 현실에서 부터 흘러나오는 여러 가지 이유에 취하여 바쁘게만 살고 있다. 난 이시대의 사람들에게 도피 할 공간을 만들고 있는 중이다. 내일을 위한 현실보다 꿈과 이상 속에서 인생의 진실을 발견하여 ,나 자신을 더불어 이 시대의 사람들을 움직이는 근원적인 에너지를 만들어 주고자 한다.

아름다운 꽃을 꺾어 손에 쥐는 순간부터 꽃의 화려한 빛은 사라지기 시작한다. 이처럼 소유는 모든 것을 주검의 상태로 변화시킨다. 이구아나는 화려하고 찬란한 색채로 사람들을 유혹한다. 그러나 아름다운 색채에 매혹된 사람이 그의 몸에 화살을 꽃는 순간 이구아나는 칙칙하고 탁한 색으로 변한다. 본래의 화려한 빛은 어디에서도 찾아볼 수가 없다. 광휘처럼 감돌던 매혹도 사라지고, 남는 건 참담함 뿐이다. 인간은 끝없이 무엇인가를 소유하고자 한다. 그 욕구가 강렬할수록 추구하는 대상은 더욱더 황홀한 빛을 뛰게 된다.
